Title: Simple Kitchen Soap
Categories: Soap *
Yield: 1 Batch

Dissolve 1 can commercial lye in 5 cups cold water. Cool to 80F. Meanwhile, mix 2 tb each powdered borax and liquid ammonia in 1/2 c water. Melt 6 lbs clarified grease, strain and cool to body temperature. Pour the warm grease into the lye water and beat the mass with an egg beater, gradually adding the borax and ammonia mixture. Stir until a complete emulsion is formed, about 10 or 15 minutes. Pour into a mold to cool.

Melt 5 1/2 lbs grease and strain through a coarse cloth. Allow the grease to cool, but before it hardens add 1 can commercial lye dissolved in 3 pints cold water. Stir vigorously until the mixture thickens. Let stand 5 to 6 days in molds.
