Title: Basic White Crackers
Categories: Bakery Cracker
Yield: 100 Crackers
2 | c | All purpose flour |
1/4 | ts | Salt |
2 | tb | Margarine, softened |
1 | c | Water |
Salt for topping, optional |
Preheat oven to 325F.
In a large bowl or food processor, combine flour & salt. Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Slowly mix in enough water to form a cohesive ball.
Divide dough into 3 equal portions for rolling. On a floured surface or pastry cloth, roll the crackers paper thin. Lightly sprinkle the tops with salt if so desired & gently roll over the top with rolling pin.
With a sharp knife, carefully cut the crackers into 2" squares. Handling them gently, transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet. Prick each cracker 2 or 3 times with a fork.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on a rack. Serve with soups, salads, dips, etc.
