1 | lb | Navy (pea) beans |
6 | Whole cloves | |
1 | md | Onion |
6 | Slices bacon cut into 1/2 inch pieces | |
1/2 | c | Unsulphured molasses |
1/4 | c | Firm packed dark brown sugar |
1 | tb | Dry mustard |
1/2 | ts | Ground ginger |
1/2 | ts | Salt |
Remove and discard any stones from beans; rinse and drain. In 2 1/ 2 quart
casserole, combine beans and 6 cup water. In microwave, cook, covered, on
high 16-22 minutes until boiling. Cook on high 2 minutes. Remove and let
stand, covered, 1 hour. Cook, covered, at medium ,50% power, 30-40 minutes
until beans are tender, but not soft. Press cloves into onion; add with
remaining ingredients to casserole. Cook, covered, on high 30-40 minutes,
stirring 4 times, until beans are soft. If desired, remove and discard
