Title: Out-Of-This-World Poppy Seed Bread

3/4 | c | Granulated sugar |
1/4 | c | Vegetable shortening |
2 | Eggs, beaten | |
1 | c | Orange juice |
1/2 | c | Milk |
1/4 | c | Poppy seeds |
2 | ts | Grated orange peel |
2 1/2 | c | All-purpose flour |
2 | c | Rice Chex cereal, crushed to |
1 cup | ||
1 | tb | Baking powder |
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. In large bowl cream granulated sugar and shortening. Stir in eggs. In medium bowl combine orange juice, milk, poppy seeds and orange peel. In separate medium bowl combine flour, cereal and baking powder. Add alternately with orange juice mixture to creamed mixture, stirring well after each addition. Spread evenly into loaf pan. Bake 55 to 60 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 15 minutes before removing from pan. Cool completely.
For Glaze, in small bowl combine 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon orange juice and 1 teaspoon orange peel; mix well. Spread over cooled bread.
