2 | ga | Large cucumbers, peeled, |

8 1/2 | qt | Water |

1 | tb | Alum |
1 | Bottle red food coloring | |

1 | pk | Red hot candies |
10 | Watkins Cinnamon Sticks |
Combine sliced cucumbers, pickling lime and 8 1/2 quarts water. Let soak 24 hours. Drain, rinse and wash thoroughly to remove lime. Soak in cold water for 3 hours. Drain. Combine 1 cup vinegar, alum, red food coloring, drained cucumbers and water to cover. Simmer 2 hours;drain. combine 3 cups vinegar, sugar, red hots, 3 cups water and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil. Pour over cucumbers. Let stand 24 hours. Drain liquid into another pan and reheat. Pour same liquid over the cucumbers, soak another 24 hours between each draining. The last time, place 1 of the cinnamon sticks and cucumbers in hot sterilized jars. Pour hot juice over them and put on the lids. Process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
