2 Vanilla beans
1ptCheap vodka

Slit the beans lengthwise with a razor blade. Put in a tall jar or wine bottle. Add a pint of cheapest vodka. Put in dark cupboard for a couple of weeks. It will turn an orangish color. As you use it down, you can replace it with more vodka several times, until it stops absorbing color (and flavor).

After you slit the beans open, you can remove the seeds and save for other uses, such as vanilla sugar, but Trese uses the beans and the seeds for a stronger tasting vanilla.
