The Moravian Church is a Protestant sect originally established in
Central Europe. The lovefeast ceremony is a tradisional part of the
Moravian faicth, celebrating the birth of Christ.
Moravian lovefeast bread is traditionally made in the shape of sweet
rolls and served after church services on Christmas Eve. This wonderfully
sweet read, with the enticing aroma and taste of oranges and spices, is
great for breakfast or coffee.
Allow extra time when making this bread to prepare the mashed potatoes.
All ingredients must be at room temperature, unless otherwise noted. Add
ingredients in the order specified in your bread machine owner's manual.
Set bread machine on the basic/standard bread making setting. If possible,
select light baking cycle. If not, use medium or normal setting. Do not
use the programmable timer when making this bread since the recipe contains
perishable ingredients.
HINT: If dough appears too dry after kneading for the first couple of
minutes, add additional water, no more than 1 tbsp. at a time, just until
dough appears elastic. Do not add too much water.
NOTE: To make mashed potatoes, for 2-cup capacity recipe, peel and
quarter a medium 4-ounce red potato. Boil until tender in unsalted water.
Drain well. Mash potato with a fork until smooth. Cool to room
temperature before using. For 3-cup capacity recipe, peel and quarter a
large 6-ounce red potato. Follow same procedure.
