To Clean Smokey Lamp Glasses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To clean smokey lamp glasses easily, plunge the lamp glass into warm vinegar and water to which a little salt has been added. Polish with tissue paper.

An Old Time Window Cleaner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4 ds cornflour 1/2 c cloudy ammonia 1/2 c brown vinegar

Mix together, shaking will to mix cornflour. Apply with damp cloth. Rub over with crunched up newspaper or soft dry cloth.

To Cool an Oven ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Put a large basin of cold water into over-hot oven and it will instantly cool.

To Prevent Silver from Tarnishing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Olice oil rubbed over silver before it is put away will prevent it from tarnishing. When required, wash in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.

To Keep Flies Away ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A fresh bunch of stinging nettles hung up in the window of a room will prevent the entrance of flies.

To Firm Up Over-ripe Tomatoes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To firm up over-ripe tomatoes, place them in a bowl of icy cold water with 1 teaspoon of salt.

Coating Fish ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A teaspoon of ground ginger added to the flour when coating fish gives a piquant flavour.
