MARTHA STEWART'S 1996 HOLIDA
  Paper; square or
  Rectangular
  Stapler

These delicate ornaments add color and texture to holiday decor. They make especially beautiful additions to Christmas trees. And just like snowflakes, each one is little different from others. Practice techniques with plain paper before using fancier stock.

Start by folding square or rectangle of paper into accordion pleats. (The number of pleats determines number of points on ornament: Eight pleats will make eight points on ornament, for example.) Fold accordion of paper in half, and staple it once at center. If ornament is too long for stapler, make staple out of wire, insert wire through two small holes in center of folded paper, and twist wire together at back. With scissors or utility knife, cut along both ends of pleated paper in arc to create star or zigzag. Unfold paper so that it forms round ornament, like round pleated hand fan, and secure ornament where sides meet with pieces of invisible tape. Pierce small hole in one of points, and tie with colored thread to make loop for hanging ornament.
