Title: Butterscotch
Categories: Candy Historic
Yield: 1 Batch
1/2 | c | Firmly packed brown sugar |
1/2 | c | Sugar |
1/2 | c | Water |
1/4 | c | Butter |
2 | ts | Vinegar |
1/2 | Capful vanilla extract |
Combine all of your ingredients, except the vanilla, in a saucepan. Cook until mixture begins to boil. Cover the saucepan and boil without stirring until mixture reaches the soft crack stage (275F to 280F). Remove from heat and add vanilla. DON'T STIR! Pour quickly into a well-buttered pan. It should be in a thin sheet. Cool just slightly and mark in squares.
NOTE: This 1914 recipe is fun to make because it is easy, and also something you can come up with on the spur of the moment. You should have all of these ingredients in your pantry now.
