Years ago when we were first married, we lived in the same house with our landlord, an Albanian Orthodox priest, and his family. His wife taught me to make this lamb dish which is very tasty:
Brown lamb shanks in a deep fry pan on top of the stove. Add about 3 pounds sliced onions, a few garlic cloves, salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook low until onions are very soft and have made a nice juice. At that point, add fresh string beans and continue cooking until beans are tender.
It has been a long time since I last made this dish - I don't even remember what it was called; now you have inspired me to make it again soon!
