2 | lb | Venison - finely chopped or ground |
4 | lb | Apples; finely chopped |
4 | lb | White sugar or |
2 | lb | White sugar and 2 lb. brown |
1 | lb | Raisins |
1 | pk | Currants |
1/2 | lb | Suet; put through a grinder |
4 | Crushed soda crackers | |
1 | qt | Less 1/2 c sweet apple cider |
1/2 | c | Vinegar |
4 | ts | Each nutmeg and cloves |
6 | ts | Each cinnamon and allspice |
1 | ts | Ginger |
3 | ts | Pepper |
4 | ts | Each salt and mace |
Combine all ingredients and cook until apples look done. The mincemeat can be frozen in pie shells or it can be processed in commercial canning jars using the time and pressure recommended for your altitude.
Yield: About 12 pints.
