SOURCE: More Tastes & Tales from Texas with love by Peg Hein, copyright 1987, 6th Printing, Oct. 1991, ISBN #0-9613881-1-0. MM format by Ursula R. Taylor who got this from Robbie Shelton in the Oct. 1995 cookbook swap on Delphi - Cust 229. This recipe was developed by Adm. Nimitz when he was Commander in Chief of the Pacific, when liquuor was rationed and rum was often the only kind available. This recipe was shared for us by his daughter. Pour bourbon and rum into clean jug. Make the simple syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. Add simple syrup to jug cautiously until presence of sugar can begin to be detected. Fill remainder of jub with water. Admiral Nimitz adds, "Desirable but not necessary; drop two whole vanilla beans into the jug to stay for many refills of jug. They last for years. Pour generous portions over ice and serve it forth."
