Title: Buttermilk Chocolate Cake From Basic Cake Mix

3 1/3 | c | Basic cake mix |
1/2 | c | Sugar |
2 | Eggs, beaten | |
1 | c | Buttermilk |
1/2 | c | Cocoa |
1/2 | c | Boiling water |
1 | ts | Baking soda |
1 | ts | Vanilla |
CREAMY FROSTING | ||
1 | c | Milk |
2 | tb | Flour |
pn | Salt | |
1/2 | c | Butter or marg; softened |
1/2 | c | Shortening |
1 | c | Sugar |
1 | ts | Vanilla |
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease and flour two 8" round pans.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, sugar, eggs and buttermilk. Mix well.
In small bowl combine cocoa, boiling water, baking soda and vanilla. Add to the cake mixture. Beat well.
Pour into prepared pans. Bake 10 minutes. Turn oven to 375 and bake 20 more minutes. Cool in pans 20 minutes, then cool on wire rack.
Frosting: Cook together milk, flour and salt about 5 minutes, until thickened. Cool. Combine butter or margarine, shortening and sugar in a small bowl. Beat well. Add to cooled milk mixture, beating constantly. Beat about 7 minutes until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Frost cooled cake.
