110 | g | Butter or margarine |
250 | g | Sugar, dark brown |
2 | Eggs well beaten | |
175 | g | Flour, plain |

200 | ml | Wine, Irish stout use the finest that you can get! |
55 | g | Cocoa |
Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda THREE times and leave to one side.
Cream margarine and sugar, add eggs gradually and mix well. Mix the cocoa and stout together in a large bowl [this will foam up] then add this to the creamed mixture, alternating with the sifted flour.
Pour into a fully-lined cake tin and bake in a moderate oven for 45 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.
When cooled, decorate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, or, to serve with coffee, simply dust with icing sugar.
