Title: Dad's Pickled Gherkins

  Gherkins
  Onions
  Brine
  Dill, fresh
  Horseradish
  Vinegar
  Water
  Sugar

Wash gherkins and put with peeled onions in salt brine for about 48 hours. Take out and dry, then put in stone jar with dill and small pieces of horseradish [about 1 1/2 cups of horseradish and 4 to 6 heads of dill to 2 gallon jar].

Boil equal parts of vinegar and water with 4 tablespoon of sugar to each gallon of liquid.

Let cool, then pour on gherkins and onions in jar. Cover with paper tied down.
