Title: Great Grandmother Seitz's Oatmeal Cookies

2 | c | Sugar |
3 | | Eggs |
1 | c | Buttermilk |
1 | ts | Baking Soda (level) |
2 | ts | Baking powder |
3 | c | Flour |
1 | | Pinch salt |
1 | c | Raisins |
1 | ts | Nutmeg |
1 | ts | Cinnamon |
3 | c | Oatmeal |
1 | c | Shortening; melted |
Pour shortening over oatmeal and let stand 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375
degrees F. Add remaining dry ingredients together and mix thoroughly. Add
in eggs and buttermilk and blend. Add raisins and stir. Add oatmeal and
stir. Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake first batch at 375
degrees F. and then lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. for the
remaining batches. NOTE FROM POSTER: Tried and True really doesn't quite
cover this one. This recipe has been handed down through 4 generations at
least. As far as we can remember, it goes back to my Great Grandmother, but
we don't know if she came up with this, or if it was handed down to her!
