1/4 | c | Port wine |
1 | tb | Butter |
1 1/4 | c | Sugar |
1 | tb | Lemon peel -- grated |
1/8 | ts | Cinnamon |
1/8 | ts | Nutmeg |
4 | md | Apples -- peeled and sliced |
2 | c | Fresh cranberries |
1/2 | c | Dates -- chopped and pitted |
1/3 | c | Walnuts -- chopped |
Dairy sour cream or ice | ||
Cream |
In slow-cooking pot, combine wine, butter, sugar, lemon peel, and spices. Add apples and cranberries. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. Stir in dates and walnuts. Serve warm or cold. Delicious with topping of sour cream or used as a sundae sauce.
Lin's note -- we added chopped oranges, tangerines, and pears - it needed to cook a bit longer, but it was wonderful!
