Title: Holiday Fruit Compote

1/4cPort wine
1tbButter
1 1/4cSugar
1tbLemon peel -- grated
1/8tsCinnamon
1/8tsNutmeg
4mdApples -- peeled and sliced
2cFresh cranberries
1/2cDates -- chopped and pitted
1/3cWalnuts -- chopped
  Dairy sour cream or ice
  Cream

In slow-cooking pot, combine wine, butter, sugar, lemon peel, and spices. Add apples and cranberries. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. Stir in dates and walnuts. Serve warm or cold. Delicious with topping of sour cream or used as a sundae sauce.

Lin's note -- we added chopped oranges, tangerines, and pears - it needed to cook a bit longer, but it was wonderful!
