Title: Three Layer Dessert Bars

BOTTOM LAYER | ||
1/2 | c | Shortening or butter |
1/2 | c | White sugar |
1/2 | c | Brown sugar |
2 | lg | Egg yolks, beaten |
1 | ts | Vanilla |
1/4 | ts | Baking soda |
1/4 | ts | Salt |
1 | tb | Water |
2 | c | Flour |
MIDDLE LAYER | ||
1 | c | Chopped pecans |
1 | sm | Pkg chocolate chips |
TOP LAYER | ||
1 | lg | Egg whites |
1 | c | Brown sugar |
For the bottom layer, cream shortening and sugar. Add next seven ingredients. Mix well, pat into bottom of 8 x 12 buttered pan.
For the middle layer, press the chocolate chips and chopped pecans into the dough.
For the top layer, beat the egg whites until stiff. Fold in the brown sugar.
Spread over the top of the chocolate chips and pecans.
Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes until topping is nicely browned.
Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then cut into squares of strips.
