Title: Lanolin Cream
Categories: Lotion
Yield: 8 Ounces
2 | tb | Grated beeswax |
2 | tb | Lanolin |
1/2 | c | Almond oil |
2 | tb | Distilled water |
2 | tb | Witch haxwl |
1/8 | ts | Borax powder |
Lanolin is an excellent cream for dry, chapped skin. It is found naturally in the oil glands of sheep and is chemically closer to a wax than an oil. It helps the skin stay soft and retain moisture. Lanolin itself is 25% water. This is a good general-purpose cream and works well on babies to prevent diaper rash. If you have a sensitivity to wool products, you may want to spot test this cream first.
Combine the beeswax, lanolin and oil in an ovenproof dish and heat until the wax and lanolin are melted. The best way to do this is in a water bath. Place the dish containing the wax, lanolin and oil in a pan with 1 to 2 inches of water.
Combine the water, witch hazel and borax.
When the wax, lanolin and oil have melted, heat the water, witch hazel and borax until just boiling. You can do this in the microwave for 45 seconds on High or in a water bath on the stove top. Slowly pour the water solution into the oil mixture and stir well.
Cool completely. You will now have a white, thick cream to massage into your skin.
Note: If you would like more of a lotion, simply add more water and witch hazel to the recipe.
