Papaya is an excellent skin softener because it contains a great deal of papain, a natural enzyme. Unripe papayas have the highest content of papain; as the papaya ripes, the papain content decreases. It is recommended you store this cream in glass or ceramic containers. This cream contais actual fruit and it can spoil; store it in the refrigerator and it should last for about four months.
Mix together the oil, stearic acid, and lecithin in an ovenproof glass container, and melt in a water bath on the stove top over medium heat. The mixture will become foamy and golden yellow as it melts.
Mix together the papaya, water, baking soda, and tincture of benzoin, and heat but do not boil (1 minute in the microwave on High or 5 minutes in a water bath on the stove top). Stir thoroughly.
Slowly add the papaya mixture to teh oil mixture and stir thoroughly. The mixture will foam up in volume; keep stirring.
Cool completely and stir one more time. Place in an airtight container and use wherever you want softer, smoother skin.
