Title: Simple Sunscreen Lotion
Categories: Misc *
Yield: 8 Ounces
1/4 | ts | Borax powder |
1/2 | c | Hot, strong tea (use 2 or 3 regular tea bags) |
1/2 | c | Sesame seed oil |
1 | tb | Grated beeswax |
Sesame seed oil has one of the highest ratings for ultraviolet radiation absorption, and the tannic acid in the tea also absorbs UV rays. It should be noted that THIS IS NOT A SUNBLOCK, and care should always be taken when sunbathing.
Dissolve the borax in the tea, stir well, and set aside.
Mix together the oil and beeswax in a glass measuring cup. Place the glass cup in a pan of water, making a water bath. Heat over medium heat on the stove top until the beeswax is melted, stirring occasionally.
When the wax is melted, remove the mixture from the water bath. Slowly add the tea mixture to it, stirring briskly. You can also put the mixtures in the blender and whip.
Pour the lotion into a clean container and cool completely. Smoothe this lotion on your face and body before going out in the sun, and reapply every hour during your time outdoors.
Note: The B vitamin PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) can be added to creams and lotions to increase their sunscreening powders. PABA can be purchased at many pharmacies in a liquid form.
