Title: Apple Crisp From P.g.& E.

Yield: 6 Servings
3 | lb | Firm baking apples (such as Granny Smith or Macintosh) |
2 | tb | Lemon juice |
1/2 | c | Brown sugar |
1/2 | ts | Cinnamon |
1/2 | ts | Nutmeg |
1/3 | c | All-purpose flour |
1/3 | c | Granulated sugar |
1/3 | c | Rolled oats (uncooked oat- meal) |
4 | tb | Cold unsalted butter |
1/2 | c | Chopped walnuts |
Peel, core and chop apples, and immediately toss them in a bowl with lemon juice. In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir into apples. Set aside. In another bowl combine flour, granulated sugar and rolled oats. Cut butter into 8 pieces, and using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut butter into flour until mixture looks like crumbs. Stir in walnuts. Butter a 10 X 10-inch glass or ceramic baking dish. Spread apples into bottom of baking dish and sprinkle with flour mixture. Bake at 375 F. for 45 minutes, until topping is lightly browned. Serve warm or at room temperature. Makes 6 servings.
