Title: Kusherie (Egyptian Rice and Lentils)

In a saucepan,heat together: | ||
3/4 | c | (one 6 oz can) tomato paste |
3 | c | Tomato juice, sauce or |
Pureed tomatoes | ||
1 | Green pepper, chopped | |
Chopped celery leaves | ||
1 | tb | Sugar |
1/2 | ts | Salt |
1 | ts | Cumin |
1/4 | ts | Cayenne pepper or cruched |
Chilis to taste | ||
Browned Onions: | ||
Heat in small skillet: | ||
2 | tb | Oil |
Saute over medium heat until | ||
Brown: | ||
3 | Onions, sliced | |
4 | Cloves garlic, minced |
Bring sauce to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 20-30 minutes.
