Conventional: In heavy saucepan, combine syrup, sweetened condensed milk and salt. Over medium heat, cook and stir 12 - 15 minutes or until slightly thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Serve warm with dippers. Refrigerate leftovers. To reheat - in small heavy saucepan, combine desired amount of sauce and small amount of water. Over low heat, stir constantly until heated.
Microwave: In 1 quart glass measure, combine syrup, sweetened condensed milk and salt. Microwave on full power 3 - 4 minutes, stirring after two minutes. Stir in vanilla. Refrigerate leftovers. To reheat in microwave; combine desired amount of sauce and small amount of water. Cover and microwave on 50% power for 2 minutes or longer until desired texture.
Can be served warm or cold over ice cream as well.
Can be made several weeks ahead. Store tightly covered in refrigerator.
