Title: Grapefruit Basics
Categories: Dessert Fruit
Yield: 1 Servings
SELECTING,STORING,PREPARING | ||
Citrus paradisi |
SEASON: All year; supplies are best from January through April.
LOOK FOR: Well shaped fruit that is firm and heavy for its size. Brownish discolorations on the skin usually do not affect the eating quality. Varieties include seedless or with seeds, either pink, red, or white fleshed. Avoid fruit that is soft or discolored at the stem end.
TO STORE: Refrigerate grapefruit; use them within 1 to 2 weeks.
TO PREPARE: Cut the fruit in half parallel to the stem end. Then, cut the sections from the membranes, leaving them in place if you are serving the grapefruit in the shell. Remove any seeds.
