4 Bacon strips, diced

1 1/3cWater
2tbKetchup
1tsGarlic powder
3/4tsChili powder
1/2tsGround cumin
1/4tsDried red pepper flakes
1 Bay leaf
1cnWhole tomatoes with liquid, chopped (16 oz)
1cnPinto beans, drained (15 oz
1cnKidney beans, drained (16 oz.)

Lightly fry bacon in a heavy 3-qt. saucepan. Add onion; cook until transparent. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cook over medium heat for 45 minutes or until lentils are tender, stirring only once or twice. Remove bay leaf before serving.
