1 | md | Onion; chopped |
2 | cl | Garlic; chopped |
2 | cn | 28-oz low-sod whole tomatoes |
1 | cn | 6-oz low-sod tomato paste |
2 | ts | Dried Italian seasoning |
2 | | Bay leaves |

In medium, heavy-bottom saucepan, stir together oil, onion and garlic. Cook
over low heat, stirring often, until the onion is very soft and aromatic,
about 6 to 8 minutes. In food processor or tomatoes. Add tomatoes and
tomato paste to onions; bring to simmer over medium-high heat. Add Italian
seasoning and bay leaves. Reduce heat; let sauce simmer slowly for 30
minutes, stirring bottom often to prevent burning. If adding meatballs, do
so at this time. Simmer sauce for another 20 minutes (50 minutes total -
with or without meatballs), stirring often. Season to taste with salt and
pepper. Remove bay leaves before serving. Per serving: 197.4 calories, 210
g carbohydrates, 4g protein, 1.8 g fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 54mg sodium.
