Title: Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake

1/2 | c | Butter |
1 1/2 | c | Sugar |
2 | Egg; lightly beaten | |
1 | fl | Food coloring, red |
1 | ts | Vanilla |
2 | ts | Cocoa |
2 1/4 | c | Flour, cake |
1 | c | Buttermilk |
1 | ts | Baking soda |
1 | tb | Vinegar |
Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease, flour and line two 9" layer cake pans with parchment.
With an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. In a small bowl, make a paste of food coloring, vanilla and cocoa. Blend into butter mixture. Gradually mix in flour and buttermilk, alternating each. When flour is completely mixed in, combine baking soda and vinegar in a small bowl; quickly add to batter.
Fill cake pans 2/3 full and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
