Yield: 1 Batch
FATS AND OILS | ||

LYE SOLUTION | ||
80øF to 100øF | ||
INGREDIENTS | ||
1 | lb | 5 oz olive oil |
1 1/2 | tb | Annatto seeds -OR- |
1/4 | ts | Annatto extract |
201 | g | Sodium hydroxide |
1 | lb | 3 oz distilled water |
1 | lb | Coconut oil |
14 | oz | Palm oil |
12 | g | Grapefruit seed extract, optional |
1 1/2 | tb | Safflower threads |
7 | ts | Pure essential oil or fragrance oil, optional |
When using annatto seeds, remove 1/2 cup of the olive oil, add the seeds, and heat for 30 seconds on high in the microwave. Allow this to steep to make annatto oil. Stir periodically to release more of the deep yellow color.
Just before adding the lye solution to the fats and oils, blend 5 tb plus 2 ts of strained annatto oil into the fats and oils mixture. Proceed as usual. When using the annatto extract, add it at the trace. Add the safflower threads just before you add the essential oils, at the trace.
